Andrew Whale
“Many Blumont Annuity employees have experience in the pension sector, and there’s a shared recognition throughout the company that the work we’re doing provides financial security to people who worked hard to earn their pensions in retirement.”

Andrew Whale

Chief Risk Officer

Over the course of his career as a consultant, as an executive with a leading insurer and as Chief Actuary for a public sector pension plan with over 100,000 members, Andrew Whale has advised organizations on evaluating, allocating and managing risk to achieve strategic goals and fulfil organizational commitments.

As Chief Risk Officer (CRO), Andrew’s role includes acting as the second line of defence – a monitor and arbiter – in ensuring that Blumont Annuity’s business strategy aligns with its risk framework. Andrew plays a critical role in supporting a robust risk management culture that empowers everyone in the organization to think like risk managers. When risk considerations are addressed at the outset, the CRO can act as a facilitator rather than a gatekeeper.

Blumont Annuity helps its clients transfer pension risk and streamline their balance sheets while fulfilling their obligations to their pensioners. Andrew has an exceptional understanding of both our clients’ financial risks and the vitally important contribution that a secure retirement income makes to the peace of mind and quality of life enjoyed by our policy members.

Andrew is a Fellow of both the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) and the Society of Actuaries. He sits on several CIA committees and councils and is passionate about training and guiding future generations of the profession. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

“The common theme running through my career has been strategic risk management and enabling organizations to integrate risk – notably pension risk – into their overall strategy.”
